Some weddings are romantic, some or religious, and some are just a big party; which is exactly how we would describe a traditional Vietnamese wedding! Honestly, you haven’t really partied at a wedding until you have been to a Vietnamese wedding. It was so much fun! Guys, they put a bottle of Hennessy at EVERY TABLE at the reception. Sure, we’ve seen a bottle of wine at a table…but nothing like this! How do you infuse both style and class into a party? You add a bottle of Hennessey….or 25.
Traditional Vietnamese Wedding
If you don’t know, a traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony takes place at both the bride and groom’s homes in front of the ancestor altars at home of both families. The marriage ceremony includes asking permission to “receive” the bride, receiving the bride at her house, and bringing the bride to the groom’s house.
This is a beautiful ceremony. The calming and aromatic smell of incense softly filling the room. The soft chant of prayers for happiness, luck, and prosperity. The gifts from the groom’s family are everywhere. We loved everything about it! Not to mention Thu was radiantly beautiful in both her traditional Vietnamese wedding dress with khan dong and her modern wedding dress.
St Gerard Catholic Church Lansing
The reception was held at St. Gerard Catholic Church in Lansing, Michigan a few hours after the ceremonies. Thu and Ha did an amazing job decorating their ceremony. The light blue and white theme paired with the soft warm lights creating a lovely and romantic environment.
One thing that stuck out to us about this wedding was how Thu and Ha made a point to get a picture with every guest at the reception. They set up a beautiful wedding arch decorated with florals and received everyone as they entered the reception. As photographers, we couldn’t have been happier about this! Leidy was able to set up her flash and photograph everyone as they walked in.
Thu Ngo and Hạ Lê
Thu and Ha, thank you so much for inviting us to be a part of your incredible and beautiful wedding! We are honored to be apart of your love story, from the engagement session at Robinette’s to the wedding day. It was way more fun and WILD than we expected it to be! The traditional Vietnamese food was fantastic and the games played during the wedding day were so entertaining to watch. We probably will never see a First Dance like yours again. Josh feels somehow responsible for the falling champagne glass tower! But you guys just rolled with it, not missing a beat and laughed it off. Honestly, your wedding was so beautiful and fun! We will JUMP at the chance to go to another traditional Vietnamese wedding soon! We won’t soon forget it! Here are a few of our favorite photos of your amazing wedding day! We hope you love them and more to come soon!
