“Hey! We just got engaged, do you guys do weddings?”
We’ll never forget how we first met Erika and James. It was a warm summer night and we were just about to leave Paloma’s quince when these two energic and lively people caught up behind us. We can’t remember if we had business cards on hand or if we just ask them to add us on our Facebook page, but we eventually connected and met at MadCap for coffee. We absolutely loved hearing their stories together. Probably because they reminded us so much of us! We instantly feel for Erika’s charm and her love for cows! When we learned of James and his role as a police officer, we couldn’t help but respect him for his sense of duty and honor. Erika had one request for her wedding and that was to get a picture of her with the cows at the Ridge View Barn!
The Ridge View Barn
Erika and James had an incredible wedding at the Ridge View Barn. The love between these two is palpable and it was a total joy to capture! And what a dream team to work with two of our favorite people. But something stuck out to us. You see, Leidy and I come from two culturally different backgrounds. So it is always an extra special wedding for us when we see other couples getting married in the same way. And what we love the most about Erika and James’ wedding is how seamlessly both families came together to celebrate their love. Even before the wedding started, guests mingled from both sides of the family as one. And at the reception, there wasn’t a “James side” or “Erika side”, everyone celebrated together as one big happy family. Because that is exactly what they are. And what an amazing celebration it was! We were serenaded by the mariachi band (a first for us!), toasted to the couple with a shot of tequila, and danced to the reggaeton. This wedding was truly an honor to be a part of.
Saint Peter Saint Paul Parish
The wedding ceremony was at Saint Peter Saint Paul Parish before the reception at The Ridge View Barn. In Grand Rapids, there are so many beautiful Catholic churches. So we are always excited and eager to shoot a wedding at one of them. The wedding ceremony hosted by Father Louis was captivating and emotional. We loved every minute of it.

Erika and James, thank you so much for inviting us to your BLAST of a wedding! We had such a good time with both of you and your family. Never before have we ever been serenaded by a mariachi band but after your wedding, we now have! The whole day was beautiful from start to finish. Your family was so warm and welcoming, we felt like one of the family. It has been such an honor to photograph you both for your engagement at Long Lake Park and now your wedding. Here are a few of our favorites from the wedding day. We hope you enjoy them! And we hope you had a wonderful honeymoon in Mexico!
