We photograph weddings all over the world, and few places compare to a spring Michigan wedding. Michigan is such a beautiful state to get married in, especially during the springtime. The days are warm and sunny, but not too hot, while the evenings cool down just enough for you to be able to have your wedding outside. You can find plenty of lovely locations that will work well for your ceremony and reception sites—especially downtown Grand Rapids.
Molly and Steve’s wedding was just that. An utterly romantic spring wedding in Grand Rapids. Molly and Steve were married at the beautiful St Andrew’s Cathedral downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. After their uplifting Catholic ceremony, they celebrated their marriage at the Cascade Country Club. We photographed their bride and groom portraits and the bridal party portraits at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.
St. Andrew’s Cathedral
Grand Rapids has its fair share of beautiful cathedrals. It’s one of the highlights making Grand Rapids an incredible spot for a Michigan wedding. But the cathedral that stands head and shoulders above the rest is the Cathedral of St. Andrews. A historic landmark of Grand Rapids, it’s not difficult to see why it is such a popular spot for weddings. The interior is breathtaking. We cherish every opportunity we have to return to its majesty and celebrate a couple’s love story.
Cascade Country Club
We were told that this was one of the first weddings that Cascade Country Club has started to permit outdoors in their new reception tent. Because of the pandemic, so many vendors in the Michigan wedding industry have had to pivot from the way they have previously operated. Regardless if that was true or not, Cascade Country Club knocked it out of the park. Both the decor and the level of service were exceptional. The food was terrific, and the staff provided some of the best services we have ever witnessed at a wedding.
That said, the highlight of the reception for us was Molly and Steve’s truly epic first dance. It was a surprise and choreographed weeks in advance. They started like any first dance, slow and romantic, when the DJ’s music was interrupted with the sound of interference. For a brief moment, Molly and Steve acted surprised before the upbeat music kicked back in. Much to everyone’s surprise, Molly and Steve was expecting this and took off, dancing in perfect step with one another.
We were shocked, delighted, and thoroughly entertained. It was hands down the best first dance we have ever seen and the kind of first dance you only see in a movie.
The Perfect Michigan Wedding
Golden hour at the Cascade Country Club was a little chilly this year. Despite the warmer weather during the day, it’s still a bit chilly once the sunsets. But nowhere near as cold as Molly and Steve’s frozen beach engagement session in Grand Haven last February. After an engagement session like that, there is nothing Molly and Steve couldn’t handle. It was an honor to be a part of this celebration of love. Molly and Steve brought so many sentimental details to their Michigan wedding, with our personal favorite being the Taco Bell hot sauce packet. The package read, “Marry Me!” and it was a long-standing joke for these two. It was an incredible wedding day, and we couldn’t be happier for these two.
